Do this
- Keep the doors shut. A closed, failed cold room holds temperature far longer than one being opened "just to check."
- Move critical or high-value stock to another working unit if you have one.
- Write down what you saw — fault code, noise, ice, water, the time it started. It speeds up diagnosis.
- Record the temperature now and every 30 minutes. Your food safety file will need it.
- Switch off and isolate if you can smell burning or see water near electrics.
Don't do this
- Don't keep resetting a tripping breaker or compressor. Repeated restarts can turn a repair into a replacement.
- Don't load warm product into a struggling unit.
- Don't hose or pressure-wash a running condensing unit to "cool it down."
- Don't chip ice off a coil with anything metal. Punctured coils are a much bigger job.
